it's all in the details
Kristy Green, CDT, CHPHC, Animal Aromatherapist
Hello and welcome to Horse & Hound Holistics. I have had a passion for all animals since I was a small child. I was always trying to sneak some new animal, wild or domestic, into the house with very little success. My parents would always tell me, "When you have your own place one day, you can have all the animals you want." Well, that is true today! I have a lot of experience with many species of animals, even a pet skunk named Odie!
I reside in the small town of Highland, MI with my husband, Tom, and my son, Evan. Tom and I built a facility with our home attached to the front in 2006. Yes, a barndominium, before they were such a popular thing to do. Our facility has been home to an equestrian center, children's farm and is now the home base for our Social Emotional Learning Dog Program where we breed and train Labradors for schools all over Michigan.
A few years back, we were really struggling with the health of our dogs. We had many dogs with what the vet said were "typical Labrador issues”. Itchy skin, lots of shedding, chewing on their feet, ear infections, obesity and the not so lovely, soft mushy poop. We were spending thousands of dollars on vet visits, medications and tests. We tried several feeding options and supplements with minimal results. Our dogs just weren’t healthy. That's when it dawned on me. What if I prepared my dog's food?
So, I started researching cooked diets and began cooking for a few of our dogs, and it was making a huge difference! I wanted to be 100% sure the cooked diet was balanced, and our canine friends were not missing any critical ingredients, so I started following Dr. Ruth Roberts and Dr. Karen Becker. Dr. Ruth offered a Holistic Pet Health Coach Certification Program, and I decided that I would take the course for my own dogs. After completing the course, I realized that there are many pet parents, who like me, needed help and guidance. I am proud to now offering coaching for breeders and pet parents wanting to improve the health and lifestyle of their own four- legged family members and friends.
As for our equine partners, I’ve just begun to touch the surface. Stay tuned... there is much more to come!
